Officials celebrate new housing projects

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —
The heart of Oak Ridge seems to be booming — at least when it comes to home construction.Last month, developers Ray Evans and Len Hart had a ground-breaking ceremony for a new 50-home development on about 26 acres off Tempura Drive.
Then, on Thursday, local officials, nonprofit volunteers, business leaders and developers had a ground-breaking ceremony for a residential project in Scarboro and a community celebration for another one on the west side of the neighborhood.More than 100 people turned out for the second event, designed to offer a preview of the development at Groves Park Commons on Tuskegee Drive.

Famed Manhattan Project photog honored with DOE award, key to the city

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —

It was probably fitting that at least five photographers were snapping photographs at a Tuesday reception honoring renowned Oak Ridge resident James Edward "Ed" Westcott.Westcott was the federal government's official photographer in Oak Ridge during the top-secret Manhattan Project, a program to develop atomic weapons during World War II.
